Please join us at CSI-St. George tomorrow, Apr. 2 at 2:30pm in SG-105 for an important lecture given by our current John J. Marchi Visiting Scholar, Rev. Dr. George McClain. The title of his lecture is “Slavery and Resistance on Staten Island 1640-1783.”
This illustrated presentation will discuss the nature of slavery on Staten Island in the early years, from 1640 to the American Revolution. The presentation will compare the initial period of Dutch rule with the later British colonial rule and then the dramatic changes that came with the American Revolution. Emphasis will be on the heroic forms of resistance that enslaved Staten Islanders, employed to maximize their exercise of freedom.
This is a double CLUE event.
