There will be a memorial in honor of Professor Emeritus and former Chair of the CSI English Department, pioneer of gay rights, and Walt Whitman Scholar Arnie Kantrowtz on Firday, Mar. 18 from noon to 2:30pm.

The memorial is sponsored by the Office of the Provost; the Office of the Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences; the English Department; the Program in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (WGSS); and the Office of Student Life – LGBTQ Resource Center. It will be moderated by Prof. Maryann Feola and Prof. Matt Brim.

The New York Times printed an impressive obituary on Wednesday, Feb. 2. Over the weekend, tributes and remembrances of Arnie have begun appearing in various news sources, including The Boston Globe, The Boston Herald, and Advocate. The Windy City Times was among the first publications to print a full view of Arnie’s contributions during the early days of the gay liberation movement, his continuing activism, and his scholarship, along with remembrances from colleagues and friends.
