College of Staten Island alumna Andrea Dalzell, who became New York State’s first registered nurse in a wheelchair, was recently featured in State of Reform, a health care policy e-magazine, this week. The piece, Trailblazing nurse joins Alaska’s Disability Pride Celebration written by Shane Ersland, chronicles Dalzell’s involvement with Alaska’s upcoming Disability Pride Parade, chronicling her incredible story and the challenges she was able to hurdle. Dalzell was crowned Ms. Wheelchair New York in 2015, and was awarded $1 million after receiving the Craig H. Nielsen Foundation’s Visionary Prize. Since then, she has established The Seated Nurse, a nonprofit that works to bridge the gap between education and employment for those with disabilities.
