In a previous email, Information Technology stated shortly after CSI transitions from the locally hosted email server to M365 on Friday, Feb 17, the alias of @mail.csi.cuny.edu will cease to function.

We understand that some users may still be using the @mail.csi.cuny.edu address, and to accommodate this, we will keep the alias functioning for an additional two weeks from today, Feb. 27. However, soon after this period, the @mail.csi.cuny.edu alias will cease to function. This is because IT has observed that the majority of spam emails received by the College come from senders using the legacy @mail.csi.cuny.edu alias.

If you know that you are receiving email sent to the @mail.csi.cuny.edu address alias, please contact the sender and inform them that they will need to send the email to your firstname.lastname@csi.cuny.edu email address.

Original email:

Information Technology is transitioning from our locally hosted email server over to M365. This will be occurring on Friday, Feb. 17, 2023. You are receiving this communication because you have been identified as potentially sending or receiving email using the @mail.csi.cuny.edu address alias in your email communications. An alias is simply a forwarding email address that when used will deliver email to your primary email address. Please note that the primary email address for the College is firstname.lastname@csi.cuny.edu. Historically, the @mail.csi.cuny.edu address was the primary email address for the College before we transitioned over to Microsoft Exchange. Once transitioned, the @mail.csi.cuny.edu was carried over as an alias to your Microsoft Exchange email address of firstname.lastname@csi.cuny.edu

Shortly after CSI transitions from the locally hosted email server to M365 on Feb. 17, the alias of @mail.csi.cuny.edu will cease to function. Anyone sending an email to that address will receive a bounce back as undeliverable. The reason for doing this is because IT has noticed that the majority of the spam email received by the College comes from people sending email to the legacy @mail.csi.cuny.edu alias.

If you know that you are receiving email sent to the @mail.csi.cuny.edu address alias, please contact the sender and let them know they will need to send the email to your firstname.lastname@csi.cuny.edu email address.
