I hope that this message finds you well and Happy Monday. My name is Dr. Jonathan Wesley and I have the pleasure of serving alongside you as the Executive Chief Diversity Officer and Special Assistant to the President. I am looking forward to meeting more of you and working collaboratively to ensure the embrace of diversity, centering of equity, and practice of inclusion (DEI) are a central focus at CSI. Thus, assessing the current campus climate is more important than ever before. Considering the events of the past few years, we want to ensure that we are able to capture your experiences in efforts to begin the process of systemic and structural change from a DEI lens. We can do this by capturing your perceptions of DEI and experiences at CSI so that we can improve our campus climate.

We are participating in the Staff Climate Survey (SCS), which is a national survey developed by the Higher Education Research Institute (HERI) at UCLA. In addition to providing essential information about staff experiences at CSI, our results will be combined with those from other institutions in the United States as part of HERI’s national research agenda. This will allow us to compare and contrast what our experiences are with other U.S. institutions. The purpose of this survey is to help us understand how you experience CSI from a DEI perspective. Your completion of this survey will help us understand how we can best improve.

We are asking you to support this initiative by completing the Staff Climate Survey as soon as you can. On Wednesday, March 1, 2023, you will receive an email from HERI with further instructions. The HERI Staff Climate Survey will be open from Mar.Wednesday 1, 2023 to Sunday, Apr. 30, 2023. This online survey will take approximately 20 to 25 minutes to complete and we hope that you will complete it shortly after it opens.

The HERI Staff Climate Survey is an anonymous survey. As such, you will not be asked any identifying information (name, address, etc.). Your confidentiality is assured. We need your candid feedback in order to make and sustain change at CSI. As a note, the only people who will receive this survey are staff and adjunct faculty, considering the COACHE survey is being administered to all full-time faculty. Once the survey is completed and analyzed, we will share the results with the campus in Fall 2023. We understand the importance of transparency and we will model accordingly. If you have any questions regarding the HERI Staff Climate Survey, please contact ODEI at DEI@csi.cuny.edu.
