The Eta Lambda Chapter of the Phi Beta Delta Honor Society for International Scholars at CSI recently inducted 12 faculty, staff, scholars and students, and an administrator on March 28, 2023 into the prestigious society in its 11th Induction Ceremony. An online gallery will be available soon.
Interim Provost/Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Michael E. Steiper kicked off the event with greetings to the audience. Anita Romano, President of the CSI Chapter introduced our keynote speaker and friend of CSI Dr. Naima Charifi, Training Specialist and Tenured Professor at the United Nations. She her topic was “What Are My Career Options at the United Nations?”She also shared a wonderful slide about different paths for CSI students applying for an internship and jobs to the United Nations worldwide.
Anita also welcomed our distinguished guests, including Dr. Timothy G. Lynch, Interim President of the College, and a cohort of students from CSI High School for International Studies. The students took a campus tour, led by the Mentors of the New Student Orientation Office after the event.
This year, the chapter also presented a $500 Student Awardto CSI chapter member Benedicta Gbemudu, thanks to the generosity of a former CSI student. She was inducted in 2022 and is majoring in Biology.
The CSI chapter is also having a Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Fundraising event, in tandem with Digital Dozens, where each dozen costs $14, with a savings of $2.69. The Digital Dozen Certificates are valid for one original Glazed Dozen and will be sent directly via email. The certificates have no expiration date. The Phi Beta Delta Honor Society for International Scholars is pleased to announce that the 2023 Phi Beta Delta International Webinar Conference will be on Monday- Wednesday, May 22-24, 2023. The theme is Global Learning and Scholarship. Once again, the CSI chapter is sponsoring group registration for this conference for the CSI community, whom we encourage to present at the conference. The chapter also thanks CSI PBD members for remitting their membership dues and additional contributions in support our students and the mission of the Eta Lambda chapter. Please note that of the $30 membership fee, $15 is for the support of our students, and the balance of $15 is submitted to PBD headquarters.

ABOUT THE ETA LAMBDA CHAPTER:
The Eta Lambda chapter at the College of Staten Island held its first induction ceremony in 2011. It is the first chapter within The City University of New York system. CSI currently boasts 150+ members. The chapter is housed at the Center for Global Engagement, which supports comprehensive internationalization. The Center also organizes events and special programming throughout the year for the CSI community, as well as specialized customized short- and long-term programs for international guests.
