The Staten Island Advance recently featured late-CSI diving coach James Cooney, who passed away in 2019, in a street-naming ceremony held yesterday on the corner of Corbin Ave. and Wanant St. in the Great Kills section of Staten Island. The feature, written by Advance reporter Jessica Jones-Gorman, chronicles Cooney’s impact on the youth of Staten Island, most notably as an instructor at the Great Kills Swim Club for over three decades. Cooney spent a portion of that time also coaching divers at CSI from 2010-16. For the full feature, visit the Staten Island Advance Website.
