Please join the “Friends of CSI” for a Literary Luncheon featuring CSI Professor of Nonfiction, Ava Chin, author of Mott Street: A Chinese American Family’s Story of Exclusion and Homecoming on Sunday, Oct. 1 from noon to 3:00pm at Osteria Santina, 502 Jewett Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10302.

Come hear Ava Chin as she unravels the mystery surrounding her Chinese American family’s origins. Through decades of painstaking research, she not only uncovers her father’s identity but also sheds light on the hardships and challenges faced by her pioneering ancestors who crossed the Pacific to the United States. Breaking the silence surrounding her family’s past, Chin narrates the tale of their backbreaking work on the transcontinental railroad, the racism they endured in frontier towns, and their eventual settlement in a single building on Mott Street, which served as a refuge for so many of her ancestors and where they would live and craft new identities.
