College of Staten Island Alumnus Jose Mejia was recently featured in the Staten Island Advance‘s Hispanic Heritage 2023 series this week, chronicling his story about his pathway to citizenship, as part of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.
Mejia achieved his Bachelor of Arts degree in political science with a minor in legal studies, and a Master of Science degree in management and healthcare administration at CSI, currently works at Staten Island University Hospital, and is a community activist and volunteer in the borough he has called home since the age of two. Like many others, Mejia has faced struggles associated with permanent residency in the United States, outlined in the feature.
His inspiring story, written by Advance reporter Tracey Porpora, is available via the Staten Island Advance Website.
