CSI Athletics celebrated its annual golf outing on Tuesday at Silver Lake Golf Course, welcoming in over 140 golfers for one of the program’s most important fundraisers. The event began early in the morning with a 7am grab-and-go breakfast ahead of an 8am shotgun start. Participating golfers, raffles, and sponsorships, all helped generate funds used to support the operational costs of CSI Athletics.
Director of Athletics Chase Licata was excited by the event turnout and the tremendous show of support for the Athletics Department. “We really appreciate the generosity and commitment to helping our student-athletes,” he said. “Kudos to (CSI Baseball Head Coach) Mike Mauro for putting this together. It was a great event with great people who reflect what we are all about which is the student-athlete experience.”
In addition to the raffles, contests including longest drive and closest to the pin were held throughout the event. Golfers were also treated to special gifts at several holes and each foursome was given the opportunity to have their picture taken as they participated in the event. CSI Athletics staff, college administration, student-athletes, alumni, sponsors, and many more were present for the event which culminated with food and drinks at Jimmy Max Restaurant and Pizzeria.
Led by Mauro, participants and event staff traveled from the golf course to Jimmy Max where all were treated to complimentary food and drinks from one of the many event sponsors. The revenue generated from the event is utilized to fund items such as team travel, meals, and scholarships. The event, in addition to raising money, also provides the opportunity for CSI Athletics to engage with alumni, sponsors, the community, and those who offer their support the program.
Mauro expressed his gratitude for all of those who helped make the event possible saying, “I can’t thank the business owners of Staten Island enough for all of their generosity. New and old businesses getting involved with their hometown college is amazing. We had alumni come back as well as new companies off of Staten Island that wanted to be involved in this event. The Dolphins family is one I am proud to be a part of, especially on a day like today.”
