Are the Humanities in crisis? Moderated by Professor Bethany Rogers (Educational Studies), a distinguished panel of Professors Matt Brim (Queer Studies), Cate Marvin (English), Sarah Pollack (World Languages and Literatures), and George Emilio Sanchez (Performing and Creative Arts) considers the state of the humanities in the context of their respective disciplines. The first of an ongoing series, this conversation uses Nathan Heller’s “The End of the English Major,” published last February in The New Yorker, as well as CUNY Professor Mary McGlynn’s response, “The End of the English Major? Hardly,” as a jumping off point for an important and timely discussion.
