February NYCCHR Workshops: 

The NYC Commission on Human Rights (NYCCHR) will be offering two online workshops: 

Understanding Muslim Experiences and Combatting Anti-Muslim Bias on Tuesday, Feb. 13 
This workshop promotes understanding of the City’s diverse faith communities. The workshop addresses what is referred to as anti-Muslim racism, introduces Muslim beliefs and practices, outlines most effective methods in working with Muslim New Yorkers, and elaborates on the protections under the City Human Rights Law against discrimination based on religion.

Bystander Intervention Workshop on Thursday, Feb. 22
The Bystander Intervention workshop is built on the idea that we all play a role in creating safe public spaces for each other when we see our neighbors and community members facing bias, discrimination, or harassment.

New Supervisor Program: Nominations Now Open: 

This is an excellent opportunity for employees new to their supervisory roles in CUNY. Participation in this program will assist them in building knowledge, skills, and confidence in managing teams as they transition into their leadership roles. This year’s program will run from Friday, Mar. 1 through Friday, Aug. 1, 2024, and is free of charge.    

Supervisors must nominate their employees who meet the eligibility criteria below at this time by completing the New Supervisors Nomination Form.   

To be able to participate in the program, employees must:   

  • Have two years or less of experience supervising others 
  • Have at least one direct report
  • Be ready and willing to complete all program activities within the program time frame  These include:   
  • Complete all mandatory online courses (approximately 22 hours) 
  • Select and complete at least five elective online courses   
  • Complete an Individual Development Plan (IDP) with their supervisor  
  • Be available to attend all three of the CUNY-specific live learning sessions on the dates scheduled (may be available either in-person or via Zoom) 
  • Program Welcome and Managing a Hybrid Workforce – Tuesday, Mar. 12 (on-site) or Tuesday, Mar. 19 (Zoom).  
  • Performance Management – Tuesday, Apr. 9 (on-site) or Tuesday, Apr. 16 (Zoom).   
  • Labor Relations – Tuesday, May 21t (on-site) or Tuesday, May 28 (Zoom).    

The deadline to submit nominations is Tuesday, Feb. 6.  Selected participants will be notified by Friday, Feb. 16. Please note that this program tends to fill up quickly, so please do not hesitate in submitting your nominations as soon as possible, as seats are limited.
