Welcome to a new semester.

I wanted to take a moment to remind the campus community that using people’s preferred name, pronouns, and title is CUNY policy. It is so affirming to use each others’ name and pronouns correctly. If you aren’t sure what pronouns someone uses, just ask them.

I ask that offices do their best to use preferred names when emailing and interacting with students, faculty, and staff.

In order to protect student privacy and prevent outing at home, offices and departments are asked use legal names when sending mail to home addresses.

Students, faculty, and staff have the right to update their preferred name and gender at CSI. Preferred names can be reflected on CUNYFirst, Blackboard, class rosters, email, Dolphin Card, and computer login. This may be of particular interest to transgender and nonbinary campus members, but it is an option for everyone.

Please see instructions online.

Watch this great video about pronouns.

People’s preferred name, pronouns, and title are protected by NYC law. See more information online.

If you have any questions or issues, please do not hesitate to contact me at Jeremiah.Jurkiewicz@csi.cuny.edu

In my role, I am here to provide support to LGBTQ+ students, faculty, staff, and anyone who may be questioning their sexuality or gender identity.

I also facilitate SafeZone Trainings for departments to learn about the LGBTQ+ community. Contact me to schedule a training.

Let’s do our best to respect one another and make CSI a place where we can all thrive. Thank you for being a part of our CSI community and I wish you all the best with your semester.
