Meet GIS Day 2024 speaker Santina Benincasa – BA, MS:
Santina Benincasa joined Con Edison as a Senior Specialist for the Operations side of the Demand Response team in July of 2023. She currently runs the company’s BYOT (Bring Your Own Thermostat) program. Prior to joining Con Edison, Santina started out as a mapper at National Grid and eventually worked her way up to being the GIS lead for Gas Transmission Engineering. A large part of her role encompassed the digitization of maps and records as well as identifying and rectifying discrepancies between in-line-inspection data. Santina has also worked as an Adjunct Lecturer for CUNY since 2016. She initially taught geology and environmental chemistry courses at Kingsborough Community College and then began teaching at Borough of Manhattan Community College, of which she is the current course curriculum designer and lead instructor for their GIS program.
Santina holds a Master’s in Geographic Information Science and Technology from the University of Southern California and a Bachelor’s in Earth Science Teacher Education from Brooklyn College. Her research publications have focused on Superstorm Sandy and the New York City shoreline. In her free time, Santina enjoys kickboxing and strength training.
