The College of Staten Island is excited to announce its Spring 2025 Earth and Environmental Science Speaker Series, organized by Sean Thatcher, Lecturer of the Department of Engineering and Environmental Science, and Earth and Ocean Science Coordinator. This series will feature distinguished experts sharing insights on cutting-edge environmental research and career guidance.
The speaker series promises to bring together experts in renewable energy, volcanology, climatology, geoscience education, and environmental policy. Scheduled throughout the semester, the events are free and available for CLUE credit. Dates for the speaker series are set and scheduled for 2:30pm to 4:00pm, in 3N-103.
Featured Speakers and Topics:
• Greg Koumoullos (March 13) – An informative session on Con Edison’s clean energy initiatives using geothermal energy within NYC, including summer internship opportunities. This event is PG CLUE.
• Dr . Lis Gallant (March 18) – A volcanologist from the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo will discuss responses to nine eruptions from Mauna Loa and Kilauea over the past five years. This event is CC CLUE.
• Dr . Gerald Rustic (April 10) – A paleoceanographer from Rowan University exploring historical climate variations and the impact of the El Niño Southern Oscillation. This event is CC CLUE.
• Dr . Lauren Neitzke Adamo (April 24) – An expert in novel field technologies will focus on the future of fieldwork, emphasizing universal design learning to enhance inclusivity. This event is CC CLUE.
• Jim Bennett (May 8) – An engaging discussion on navigating career dreams, plans, and unexpected turns while entering the professional world. This event is PG CLUE.
The series aims to provide students and the community with valuable insights into environmental science careers, research, and technological advancements within the field of Earth and environmental science, along with its interdisciplinary nature in fields such as engineering, education, policy, sustainability, and climate.
