As part of our ongoing efforts to maintain a clean, safe, and healthy environment on campus, we are implementing several enhanced measures to address recent concerns regarding rodent activity. Your cooperation is essential in helping us to mitigate this issue and maintain a pest-free campus.
We ask that you follow most effective methods and remedies as outlined below:
- Keep Offices Clean: Please take a few minutes each day to tidy up your work spaces and remove any food crumbs or debris that may attract pests.
- Store Food Properly: All food items should be kept in sealed, rodent-proof containers (e.g., thick plastic, glass, or metal containers) and stored off the floor when possible. Avoid leaving snacks or meals out unattended.
- Dispose of Trash Correctly:
Office trash cans have a plastic liner. Tie the plastic liner at the end of each day and dispose of all food waste in the larger, covered trash bins located in common areas or main hallways. This helps isolate food scents that may attract rodents.
Do not leave any food, crumbs, or trash inside your office when you leave for the day.
- Report Sightings Promptly: If you see a rodent or signs of rodent activity (droppings, gnaw marks, etc.), please report it immediately to Facilities at 718.982.3210 or by using the Archibus work order link. Reporting issues promptly allows us to respond quickly and effectively.
- Increased Exterminator Services: We have doubled our pest control services to twice a week to proactively manage and treat affected areas.
- Enhanced Trash Collection: We are increasing the frequency of trash removal across campus to further eliminate attractants.
- Outdoor Trapping Measures: Additional rodent traps will be strategically placed around the exteriors of campus buildings to reduce the population near entry points.
We appreciate your attention to these matters and your active participation in keeping our campus clean and pest-free. Should you have any questions or additional suggestions, please feel free to contact the Facilities team.
Thank you for your cooperation and commitment to a healthy work environment.
