At the New York State TESOL Annual Conference held last weekend in Saratoga Springs, CSI’s Director of the English Language Institute Christian Perticone was recognized for his service as Vice President Outreach (2023–2025) by the organization’s President, Olga DeJesus-Diaz, Ed.D.

In this statewide role, Perticone provided leadership for both the organization’s Special Interest Groups (SIGs) and regional chapters, supporting NYS TESOL’s mission to advance professional development and advocacy for educators working with English language learners. Over his two-year term, he helped organize and promote more than twenty professional development events and conferences tailored to the diverse needs of the TESOL community.

Among the highlights of his tenure was co-founding the annual “Teach Adults English” Online Conference, which drew nearly 100 adult education practitioners and researchers this past June. The event provided a dedicated platform for sharing innovative practices and scholarship in adult ESL instruction. One featured presenter was Dr. Rebecca Curinga, director of CSI’sTESOL program, who shared her timely research on ChatGPT Translanguaging for Multilingual Learners. Perticone reflected on the experience, noting how meaningful it was to support and elevate such important work: “It was great to see how we were able to use the organization’s reputation and resources to provide brilliant researchers with the reach they merit.”
