This past Tuesday, students throughout the College of Staten Island were able to relax and de-stress with the Mood Matters event hosted by the Counseling Center. The Green Dolphin Lounge in 1C was transformed into a place of enjoyment with countless areas for students to decompress while in between classes.
Once students signed in, they were given a paper to provide feedback for the event. Then there were three separate stations for students to go, as well as free food.
The first area, which was extremely popular among students, featured chair massage stations. Students were able to sign in for the station, and once it was their turn, sit back and get a back massage given by massage therapists. Countless students engaged with this station with the chairs always seeming to be occupied. Some students were hoping they would even be able to get another!
The second station was Hope’s Calming Corner, which was just as popular among the students at the event. The station featured some chairs for students to sit in and relax, as they sat alongside Hope, the service dog, a small Pomeranian that was a huge hit with students, many sitting alongside her.
The last station that many students tried out was the Zentangle Art Table, with a few tables filled with various papers, crayons, and markers for students to use. Participants were able to sit with one another and create different things without having to worry about grades or deadlines. Many noted just how relaxing it was, being able to turn off their brains and just draw whatever they wanted.
Many participants mentioned just how useful this event was and it was clearly popular. The Counseling Center was able to inform everyone that the event happens once every semester. So, if you missed this event, don’t worry, because another Relaxation Station will happen in the spring semester.
