The Bertha Harris Women’s Center and the CSI Women’s Studies Program present “Violence against Women and Civilians in Armed Conflict,” on Thursday, Apr. 30 in the Center for the Arts (Building 1P), Room 120 at 6:30pm.
Dr. Cary Karacas, Assistant Professor of Geography, CSI Department of Political Science, Economics, and Philosophy, will discuss “Cities, Civilians, and the Experience of Firebombing during WW II.” The lecture will focus on the firebombing of Japan during WW II, the first major war to target civilians on a massive scale.
Also, Dr. Adeyinka M.A. Akinsulure-Smith, Assistant Professor of Psychology, City College of NY Department of Psychology, and a licensed psychologist who works with survivors of armed conflict, refugees, asylees, and asylum-seekers, nationally and internationally, will discuss “Violence against Women during Armed Conflict.” The focus of this lecture will be the impact of contemporary armed conflict on the lives of women and girls around the world, especially of rape as a weapon of war.
