Leigh Binford

Comes to CSI to chair the Department of Sociology, Anthropology and Social Work. He received his PhD in anthropology from the University of Connecticut, where he taught from 1985-1997, before moving to the Graduate Sociology Program of the Social Science and Humanities Research Institute of the Autonomous University of Puebla in Puebla, Mexico. He researches rural social economies in Mexico and Central America, with specific interests in international migration and post-civil war reconstruction. He has been the recipient of a Fulbright-Hays Fellowship for research on peasants in El Salvador’s civil war and of two grants from Mexico’s National Science and Technology Council for work on international migration. his current research project, financed by the National Science Foundation, is titled “From Wartime to Peacetime: Post-Insurgent Individuality in Northern Morazán, El Salvador.”
