Andrew Pate earned himself a spot on the CUNYAC's All Star list.
College of Staten Island’s Andrew Pate makes history by becoming the schools first CUNAYC Outdoor Track All Star. After participating with CSI’s cross country team in the fall, the sophomore tried his talents in outdoor track this past spring.
Pate started the season at the Queensborough CC Relays with a finishing time of 4:28.17 in the 1500 Meter. The following week, in the Wagner College Invitational, he completed the 800 M with a time of 2:04.60, good enough for 7th place and breaking a three year standing CSI record.
In the Richard Stockton Invitational, Pate earned 5th place in the 4×400 M Relay with teamsted Chris Galea, Chris Gonzalez and Matt Pfaff. The same four also earned a 10th place win in the 4×100 M Relay.
It seemed Pate saved his very best for the CUNYAC Championships in May. In the 800 M, he touched in with a time of 2:03.40, good enough for 2nd place amongst senior college and 5th overall. His time also broke his previous school record by 1.2 seconds.
“Andrew is a talented runner and a hard working athlete,” says Head Coach Andrew Pate, “Throughout the season his training efforts have been focused on succeeding in the 800 meters. He uses each race as an experience to improve on his performance for the next meet. Andrew is the type of runner who never settles on a personal best, but instead looks forward to setting a new goal and a faster time.”
