-Student Counseling Support: Students who feel that they would benefit from speaking with a staff member during this difficult time are encouraged to visit the Counseling Center in Building 1A, Room 109. Students can confidentially discuss any problems or concerns with professional counselors who are available Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 5:00pm and Wednesdays and Thursdays until 7:30pm. -Emergency Student Funding Is Available: Students who demonstrate need and are facing a short-term, non-reoccurring financial emergency as a result of Hurricane Sandy can apply for a Petrie Emergency Student Grant. Examples of need include, but are not limited to: loss of housing, fire in living quarters, damage or theft of computer or books, required uninsured medical treatment, travel due to death in the immediate family, imminent eviction, a lack of funds to travel to and from school, and other possible related situations. Petrie Emergency Grant applications are available in: COPE (Building 1A, Room 109A), SEEK (Building 1A, Room 112G), Health and Wellness (Building 1C, Room 112), Science and Technology (Building 1A, Room 310), Financial Aid (Building 2A, Room 401C), Student Life (Building 1C, Room 201) and online.
-Opportunity to Assist with Relief Efforts: Dr. Bonnie Fritz is currently working with Councilwoman Debi Rose’s office and other agencies to find out what the needs are across the Island, and how we can gather support from students and the College community to provide service and support to those in need. Carol Brower will work with Bonnie to give “Alerts” regarding volunteer opportunities, coordinate volunteer service by ensuring that information is accessible to the entire campus through the College’s Website and Facebook page, Collegiatelink, as well as the Civic Engagement Facebook page under Carol Brower’s office. If you are interested in volunteering or supporting these initiatives, we encourage you to do the following:
-Join the Civic Engagement Facebook page. All volunteer and collection drive information will be posted via this site. If you do not have Facebook account, you can access this information via the Civic Engagement page on CSI Campus Connection.
-Join our volunteer database. We are collecting contact information for all faculty, staff, and students who are interested in volunteering to help. Members of the database will be contacted via email as volunteer opportunities become available.
In addition, beginning Monday, the campus will be collecting the following items: non-perishable food, clean clothing, toiletry items, pet supplie,s and baby goods. The collection boxes will be labeled and located in buildings 1C, 1P, 1L, 1R, 1A, and 2A.

We are trying to centralize all relief efforts, so that there is a clear line of communication and maximum assistance and support.
-Shower Availability: We are aware that some members of the CSI community have no heat, electricity, and hot water. The shower facility in the campus Recreation Center (Building 1R) will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis starting Monday, Nov. 5. between the hours of 9:00am and 5:00pm.
-Shuttle Service: The Ferry Shuttle and the Loop Bus are both running on a normal schedule today, Friday, Nov. 2. The Loop Bus will run on a normal schedule Saturday, Nov. 3 and Sunday, Nov. 4.
