CSI frosh Megan Myhre led CSI with 19 points
The College of Staten Island women’s basketball squad improved to three games over .500 for the first time this season, blasting Medgar Evers College, 75-34, as part of CUNYAC action at the Cougars Cave in Brooklyn, NY. The Dolphins improved to 13-10 overall and 10-4 in the conference, while the Cougars fell to 0-23, 0-14, respectively.
A free-throw by Tia Tompkins and a Jaquy Lanot basket gave MEC a 3-0 lead, but that was the lone threat by the Cougars, as CSI proceeded to race out to score the next five points by Megan Myhre, and after MEC cut the CSI lead to 8-6, at 17:19, CSI went on a 21-0 run over the next seven minutes to pave the way to victory.
CSI ended the first half on another 13-3 run, sparked by two more Myhre three’s and another by Lisa Galasso. At the half, CSI led 49-14.
The Dolphins led by as many as 46 points on a number of occasions in the second half before eventually winning, 75-34. CSI shot a crisp 41.7%, which included a 45.5% clip (10-22) from downtown. The Dolphins also scored 34 points off of 31 MEC turnovers, as the Cougars shot just 23.2% (13-56).
CSI was led by Myhre’s 19 points, while Galasso pitched in with 10 markers. Melanie Johnson led CSI with 10 rebounds. Imani Mason paced MEC in points with 14, while Nia Tompkins posted a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
CSI is next in action on Friday night when they host John Jay College in their final home game of the season.
