Anticipation is growing in time for the fall slate of sports at the College of Staten Island and that holds true for the men’s and women’s cross-country squads, who have announced their anticipated schedules this week. This year the men’s program in particular will have some extra light cast its way, boasting the honor as defending champions during the 2014 campaign. Head Coach Robert Russo will lead both units as they set their sights on continued prominence.
The season starts off with a familiar sight, as Baruch College will host the first installment of CUNYAC Developmental Meets at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, New York, on Sunday, September 7. The teams will run their first two meets at Van Cortlandt before a trip to Bard College on Saturday, September 20. After that, CSI will take its turn to host, doing the honors at Clove Lakes Park in Staten Island, where both men and women will run 5k installments.
The season culminates with the CUNYAC Championship Meet at Van Cortlandt on Sunday, October 26. The women run a 6K at the meet, while the men run an 8K. The Dolphins took the title on the men’s side last year in the closest race in meet history. On the road to the championship CSI will race in the tough St. Joseph’s College Invitational, which is held at the challenging Sunken Meadow Park course in Kings Park, NY.
All cross-country events are FREE for all spectators, and CSI’s Invitational is PG CLUE Certified for all students.
