In a very physical game that saw four yellows and two red cards issued the Dolphins cage the Bloodhounds 3-0. The Dolphins improve to 5-6-1 overall and 4-0-1 in the CUNYAC while the Bloodhounds fall to 3-8 overall and 2-2 in the CUNYAC.
The Bloodhounds had very good chance early on that was curled wide just inches of the post by Oliver Cisneros. John Jay went on a drought after that early attempt and was held to just three shots the rest of the half while the Dolphins were able to uncork 12 shots forcing Daniel Hoyte to come up with six saves.
Staten Island had several chances early in the game. It all started with back-to-back corner kicks that found the head of Mohammed Ndao’s but he was unable to put one in the back of the net due to a great defensive stop by a defender from the Bloodhounds. The very next corner kick Ndao found his head on the ball again but put this one wide ending the Dolphins’ onslaught.
Brayan Evo was zoned in this afternoon as he was the recipient of many passes at the top of the 18 yard box where he rifled off a team high six shots, with three on target, in the first half alone. Tarek Emam received a yellow card at the 30 minute mark for a hard foul. The super sub known as Marcin Klim entered the game at the 23 minute mark and once again made an immediate impact. Klim was able to steal the ball off of sloppy play by the Bloodhound defense and take on the keeper one-on-one. Klim pushed it passed the keeper only to be taken out from behind by a defender and awarded a PK. No. 25 Julien Roussel received a red card for the vicious tackle from behind to drop the John Jay squad down to 10 players.
Nermin Kurtesi would step up to the spot and convert the pk to the bottom right corner for his second goal of the season.
The Dolphins came out the second half the same way they ended the first. Down a man, John Jay was unable to stop the CSI attack. The constant waves of attack finally paid dividends when Ndao slotted a pass through the back line connecting with Horatio Reid who rocketed one off the crossbar and into the back of the net for the second goal of the game and his first of the season.
Graysen Carlson, the CUNYAC’s leading goal scorer (14) had a chance midway through the second half when he found himself one-on-one with Kyle Coffey where Coffey came up with a huge leg save to keep the Bloodhounds off of the scoreboard.
Just 14 seconds after being subbed into the game No. 21 Matthew Rocca assisted Nicholas Bacarella with a cross along the ground which Bacarella tapped in for the games third goal.
Dardan Nika subbed into the game and just a few moments later was issued with a straight red card for a hard tackle on a set piece evening the field of play at 10 players apiece.
Coffey picks up his fourth win of the season and keeps his unblemished record alive for another game.
The men are back in action on Wednesday when they take on Lehman College at 4:00 pm at the CSI Soccer Complex.
