The College of Staten Island baseball squad will take to their home field for the first doubleheader of a three game home stand starting with Maritime College at 12:00 pm. After starting the season 5-1 down in Myrtle Beach, SC, the Dolphins have gone just 2-3 since returning home. The Dolphins most recently lost to Manahattanville College after nearly making a comeback in the 9th inning but coming up just short to drop them to 7-5 overall.

Players To Watch (CSI): George Kantzian leads the Dolphins with a .458 batting average through seven games and has a hefty seven doubles, a team high, to go along with five RBIs. Joe Palmeri continues to swing the bat well as he is coming off of a .500 batting average against Manhattanville College where he scored two runs while going 2-for-4 and tallied six assists on the defensive side. Pitcher Peter Bellina has a 2-0 record through two appearances and a CUNYAC leading 0.00 ERA in 12.2 innings so far this season.
Players to Watch (MC): Kevin Monahan leads the Privateers with a .455 batting average through six games and has scored six runs. Aaron Schiavoni does his best to make sure they don’t leave any players stranded on base and has collected 11 RBIs for his efforts. On the mound Anthony D’Ancona has a 0.73 ERA through 12.1 innings pitched and has a team high 12 strikeouts.
News and Notes: The Dolphins have won just one of the last five meetings against Maritime College in a series that dates back to 1998. Staten Island is 6-3 against the Privateers at the CSI Baseball Complex but lost a pair back in 2012. When the Dolphins bat .260 or better they have yet to lose a game this season and are 5-0 and are 2-4 when they bat .259 or less. Staten Island is batting .272 as a team while opponents are batting just .244 against them. Maritime College will come into today’s doubleheader boasting a .310 batting average and a combined six homeruns.
