The College of Staten Island men’s volleyball was back in action tonight, but could not keep their modest win streak alive, as they fell to Ramapo College, 3-0, as part of non-conference play in Mahwah, NJ. Ramapo won the contest by scores of 25-18, 25-19, and 25-15. The Dolphins fell to 5-10 with the loss, while the Roadrunners lifted to 13-8.
Kills by Adil El Haddad and Mark Palencia got CSI off to a modest, 3-1, lead in the opening set, but kills from three different Roadrunners sparked a 5-1 run by Ramapo to assume them the lead. CSI would close to 7-6, but Ramapo inserted a dagger via an 8-0 run that made it 15-6 fueled by three Justin Feigeles kills. RC assumed a 22-11 lead before CSI rallied for a 6-1 run to cut the score thanks to two more Palencia kills, but Ramapo was able to win the final points to take set number one.
In the second, Ramapo raced out to an early 5-1 advantage with kills from four different players. CSI would cut the lead to 10-7, but then five straight Ramapo points followed, spearheaded by Eric Van Thuyne’s three kills. Kills from Palencia and Khaleeq Baum drew CSI closer near the end, but Sean Culwell was able to end the set with a heavy spike to secure Ramapo a 2-0 advantage.
Two more kills by Culwell and a pair of aces were highlights in a third set that saw Ramapo race out to a 12-2 lead never to look back. Ramapo popped in 14 kills altogether while CSI posted just four in the final set.
Eric Van Thuyne led the way for Ramapo with 11 kills followed by Brenden Russell’s seven. Lucas Ingils led all with 25 assists while Terrance Cardo led the Roadrunners with 9 digs. CSI was led by Palencia’s seven kills. El Haddad paced CSI with 17 assists while Ronald Tisbe clocked in with seven digs.
