The College of Staten Island women’s swimming and diving team could not get the better of home Hunter College tonight, falling to the defending champs, 59-36 at the North Pool in Manhattan. The loss set CSI back to 2-6 overall and 2-2 in the CUNYAC, while the Hawks raised their records to 6-2, 4-0, respectively.
Despite the tough loss, CSI had some quality performances. Senior Ewa Wojciechowska continued her dominating form, starting individual play with a win in the 1,000-yard Freestyle with a time of 12:04.81, winning by nearly 21 seconds. Two events later, Victoria Crea took a gold medal placing as well, pulling through with a 27.11 run in the 50-yard Freestyle, winning by just over a second over HC’s Katherine Lee.
In the 200-yard Individual Medley, CSI got a great run for Alicia Defonte, who recorded a great time of 2:41.99 to take first place, winning just just over a second as well. After the Hawks took the 100-yard Butterfly, the Dolphins responded again with Crea winning the 100-yard Freestyle at 1:01.18, just beating Lee again, this time by less than a second. In the 500-yard installment of the Freestyle, Wojciechowska doubled her win total by coming in well ahead of the field with a time of 5:35.14.
To end the meet, CSI placed second in the 200-yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:55.37 by Cecelia Mauro, Crea, Wojciechowska and Defonte.
The Dolphins will now be off for over a month before returning to action on Saturday, January 13, 2018 vs. Sarah Lawrence College at the Sports & Recreation Center at 11am.
