We have a great event planned and Prof. Tara Mateik has an exhibition today. You are invited to hear students’ coming out stories:
-National Coming Out Day, Thursday, Oct. 11, outside the Campus Center (Building 1C) from 2:30pm to 4:30pm. (rain location: Campus Center Building 1C, Room 209). Join the LGBTQ Resource Center in celebrating National Coming Out Day. We celebrate coming out as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer by sharing our coming out stories. The LGBTQ community is invited to tell their coming out stories and everyone is invited to hear the struggles and successes of our community. This year marks the 30th anniversary of this momentous day. Sidewalk chalk will be available for everyone to write positive messages or share a part of their coming out story.
Nearly 30 years ago, on the anniversary of the National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights, we first observed National Coming Out Day as a reminder that one of our most basic tools is the power of coming out. According to the Human Rights Campaign, one out of every two Americans has someone close to them who is gay or lesbian. For transgender people, that number is only one in ten.

–Media Culture Faculty Exhibition: 2018: Performance by Professor Tara Mateik – Thursday, Oct. 11 in the Art Gallery of the College of Staten Island in the Center for the Arts (Building 1P, Room 112) at 6:30pm.
The performance of “Make a Declaration” in the Gallery invites today’s citizen to reactivate the spirit of the Declaration of Independence of Women–the July 4, 1876 protest by the National Woman Suffrage Association, in which activists occupied a public stage to declare their own platform for social justice. Participants will stage their own declarations, answering to the current conditions of our democracy.
This is a CLUE event.
