This summer, and into the 2019-20 academic year, the College of Staten Island athletic department will be featuring several student-athletes who’ve decided to sit and tell their short stories on being a new, NCAA Division II, student-athlete. Our feature kicks off with soon-to-be men’s basketball junior Rigaud Destime.
Destime came to CSI in the fall of 2017, recruited by former Men’s Basketball head coach Tony Petosa. Since then, Destime has blossomed over the last two years under current head coach T.J. Tibbs, helping lead the Dolphins to a CUNYAC Championship in 2018, and steadying the team to another conference championship appearance in 2019. He saved his best basketball for the CUNYAC Tournament, where he averaged 21 points and six rebounds, en route to an All-Tournament citation.
But Destime’s athletic prowess, the best of which is still yet to come, only tells part of his story. A resident of the Dolphin Cover Residence Halls, the Amityville, New York, native is a soon-to-be Nursing major. He sports a 3.16 GPA, and hopes to proceed on his chosen career path as a sports physical therapist, guided by the College’s stellar nursing and physical therapy programs. The chance to play at the Division II level has Destime justifiably anxious to get started, continuing to rigorously pursue his athletic endeavors with the same intensity as his studies.
