Chris Verene, Associate Professor of Photography in the Department of Performing and Creative Arts, has an essay and work featured from from his ongoing series, The Self-Esteem Salon, in a new anthology from the Aperture Foundation as well as in a exhibition and lecture series from the School of Visual Arts in New York City.
Photo No-Nos: Meditations on What Not to Photograph, (Aperture 2021), features ideas, stories, and anecdotes from many of the world’s most talented photographers and photography professionals, along with an encyclopedic list of more than 1,000 taboo subjects compiled from and with pictures by contributors including: Chris Verene, Nelson Chan, Cary Fagan, Duane Michals, Elinor Carucci, Danna Singer, September Dawn Bottoms, and many more. Chris Verene’s work appears in an exhibition curated by Jaime Permuth that celebrates the esteemed class of invited lecturers at the Master’s in Digital Photography Program at the School of Visual Arts. Verene’s lecture and slideshow can be seen online, on YouTube. The exhibition, titled “On Turning Ten,” is part of Photoville, the sprawling 2021 installation of the city-wide photography festival.
