The Staten Island Advance recently took a deep dive into the Off-Shore Wind educational initiatives being offered at the College of Staten Island, which is developing a workforce needed to “rapidly assemble and prepare to meet the energy transition challenges of a generation.”
Advance reporter Joseph Ostapiuk visited the Willowbrook campus, meeting with several CSI faculty, along with CUNY Trustee Michael Arvanites, to take in the hands-on equipment students will use to navigate simulations of off-shore wind turbines and technology, making them ready to meet the needs of the massive projects taking place off Staten Island shores in the not-too-distant future.
New York City’s plan to bring 2,000 megawatts of off-shore wind power into New York State’s energy portfolio “position CSI to be a trailblazer in the creation and development of a multi-disciplined program aiming to produce integral members of the burgeoning industry,” according to the Advance, and CSI’s Engineering program is invested in the programming needed for the development of this future workforce.
