The Center for Career and Professional Development, in partnership with the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce, hosted a bustling career fair at the Hilton Garden Inn, on October 25. More than 350 enthusiastic CSI students and alumni turned out for the opportunity to visit with a diverse range of 75 employers to foster career connections and employment opportunities.
CSI President Timothy G. Lynch and Linda Baran, President of the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce, welcomed employers at a pre-fair breakfast, each offering remarks about the vital contributions of the Staten Island business community and the unique preparedness and position of CSI students to contribute to the economic engine of their home community. Michel A. Hodge, EdD, Vice President for Student Affairs and Strategic Initiatives was also in attendance to welcome students and alumni.
The staff of the Center for Career and Professional Development greeted students and provided exit surveys to assess their experiences. The CSI Alumni Association was on hand to greet alumni among the attendees and employers, with each attendee receiving a stress ball, compliments of the Alumni Association. A popular feature of the day included a LinkedIn pop-up photo studio, with a constant line of students eager to have their professional head shots taken.
As President Lynch noted in his recent weekly communication regarding the Career Fair, “It is clear that our institution is well regarded by employers and that is a testament to the work that we all do in preparing our students for life after college.” Connor Ford, from event sponsor Enterprise Holdings, noted, “Very professional event, excellent communication, and overall great.” Student Tal Ohana remarked, “It was definitely good practice and experience for networking and introducing myself in future business environments and situations. Overall, I enjoyed the experience and got valuable lessons and tips out of it.”
The Career Fair was generously sponsored by A Very Special Place, Enterprise Holdings, Los Niños Services, ProMed, Staten Island Media Group, Spectrum, and State Farm/Larissa Buerano Agency.
