The College of Staten Island Social Work Department is proud to announce an upcoming visit from Dr. Aneela Sultana, a cultural anthropologist and Fulbright Scholar. Dr. Sultana, currently an Assistant Professor in the Anthropology Department at Quaid-i-Azam University in Pakistan, will be hosting a series of insightful events, exploring women’s issues from a global perspective. These events are designed to engage students, faculty, and the broader community in meaningful discussions about gender, reproductive health, and cultural influences on women’s experiences.

Visiting Fulbright Scholar Lecture:

“The Lived Experiences of Women Coping with Unintended Pregnancies”

Dr. Sultana’s lecture will focus on her postdoctoral research, which compares the lived experiences of women coping with unintended pregnancies in Pakistan and the United States. Through her work, she has explored the socio-cultural and psychological determinants of women’s reproductive health and rights, particularly in Pakistan. This lecture promises to provide a unique, cross-cultural perspective on one of the most pressing issues facing women globally.

About Dr. Aneela Sultana

Dr. Sultana has a distinguished academic career and has been involved in numerous research projects concerning the status of Pakistani women, their representation in elected forums, and reproductive health. Her work has been widely published, both in Pakistan and internationally. As part of her Fulbright Scholars Award (2023-24), Dr. Sultana is currently conducting research at Rice University in Houston.
