The College of Staten Island’s Project Democracy lecture series continues Thursday, October 8, with “The Third Sovereign: Native Nations and Tribal Sovereignty in the United States.”

Presented by Professor George Emilio Sanchez, Professor in the Department of Performing and Creative Arts and Director of the American Studies Program, the discussion will explore the constitutional and legal foundations of tribal sovereignty and the enduring presence of Indigenous nations whose histories predate the founding of the United States.
