Originally from Barcelona, Spain, David graduated with a MS in Chemical Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia. He received his PhD in Physical Oceanography at the University of the Canary Islands (2012), after spending the last four years of his PhD in the USA. His PhD work was a product of a multi-institutional research funded first by the European Foundation “La Caixa” and then by a four year fellowship from NOAA. As a result, he combined his studies with a four year appointment as Research Associate of the NOAA Atlantic Oceanographic and Atmospheric Laboratory. He was then a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Miami. He is interested in modeling the linkages between oceanic circulation, marine pollutants, and marine ecosystems, and rigorously testing models’ predictions in the field. His research involves advanced computational methods to address fundamental questions at the interface of environmental engineering and the physics of the ocean.
