The streaking College of Staten Island men’s tennis team won for the seventh straight outing on Sunday, posting a 9-0 score over New York City College of Technology in a match played at the CSI Tennis Center. The Dolphins ran their record to 12-4 with the win, and completed a perfect 3-0 string to the weekend slate of matches.
CSI cruised from start to finish over the Yellow Jackets, getting most of the team involved in the process. Seniors Gary Ambartsumov and Bobby Hargraves got the start in the No. 2 Doubles position for the first time this season, scoring an 8-3 win over NYCCT’s Michael Barnes and Daniel Enndeghe. One position up, the steady tandem of Nicholas Zikos and Patrick Thomas secured an 8-1 win.
When play turned to singles, CSI was equally impressive. Zikos at No. 1 and Masaru Takaki at No. 2 both scored perfect matches, winning 6-0, 6-0. Ambartsumov took his flight at No. 3, 6-1, 6-1, while senior Georgio Dano scored a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 4. Ronnie Dela Cruz, playing in only his third singles match of the season, scored a well-deserved, 6-3, 6-1, win over Jiaqui Guan, while Hargraves posted a win at sixth singles.
For CSI, play resumes on Tuesday when the team travels to face City College of New York.
