For the third consecutive time this season, the College of Staten Island women’s tennis team backed up a loss with a win, this time erasing a bitter loss to Hunter College with an 8-1 win over Lehman College on Wednesday afternoon at the CSI Tennis Center.  The win pulled the Dolphins to 4-6 overall and 4-2 in CUNYAC play, while the loss dipped the Lightning to 0-8, 0-5, respectively.

The Dolphins were the benficiaries of a pair of conceded flights to begin the match, and seemed to have the match well in hand after both their first and second doubles teams scored 8-0 wins.  Alena Vedeneeva and Ilona Stoyko did the honors at the top flight, while Sophia Varriano and Maryna Incherchera were aces in the second spot.

When play switched to singles, CSI took four of the five remaining fights, en route to the one-sided win.  Stoyko took a 6-1, 6-0, win over Marisela Camano at No. 2, while Jacqueline Jamaladdine had similar success at No. 5, winning 6-0, 6-1, over Jeremaeh Torres.  Demi-Jean Martorano scored a 6-4,6-0, win at No. 3, while Katie Masterson took the win at No. 4 by the same score.

CSI gets back to action on Saturday, when they host York College at 1pm.  York is currently third in the CUNYAC Standings with a 3-1 record, while CSI sits in fourth position, at 4-2.
