Olivia Tierno was named CUNYAC/Con Edison Player of the Game with 20 points and seven rebounds.

The 3 seeded Dolphins defeated 6 Lehman College in Saturday’s CUNYAC/Con Edison Women’s Basketball Championship Quarterfinal at the CSI Sports and Recreation Center. CSI had a four point lead at half time before capturing the victory 72-52. The Dolphins extended their overall record to 16-10 while the Lightning fell to a 5-21 record to close out their season.

With the win, the Dolphins advance to the next round, facing the #2 Brooklyn College Bulldogs on February 20th at 8:00 pm at CCNY.

CSI jumped to a 13 point lead by the 10th minute of the first half, allowing Lehman just five points. From there, however, Lehman chiseled their way back to a five point game keeping the Dolphins silent on the scoreboard. In the final three minutes of play, Lehman’s Keonti Powell hit a layup followed by two made free throws close the gap to three. At 2:15, Powell stole the ball from CSI to score a fastbreak layup for a two point game. On the next possession, Jennifer Navarro hit a three pointer to give the Lightning their first lead of the game by one. In the final 40 seconds, Lisa Galasso and Olivia Tierno scored a layup each to give the Dolphins a 29-25 lead to close the half.

Though the Dolphins kept the lead, lots of back and forth play saw Lehman inch as close as three points until the 10th minute. CSI went on a 14-3 run to extend their lead to 17 points with three minutes remaining. Lehman scored just two points in the final three minutes as the Dolphins extended and finished the game with their greatest lead of 20.

CUNYAC/Con Edison Player of the Game went to Olivia Tierno with 20 points, seven rebounds, four steals and three assists. Melanie Johnson totaled 20 points and six rebounds while Lisa Galasso had 13 points.

Powell led for the Lightning with 26 points and 14 reboudns while teammate Navarro had 15 points.
