The College of Staten Island women’s basketball squad got the call they wanted today, seeing a continuation to their season by virtue of their berth into the ECAC Metro NY/NJ Postseason Tournament, it was announced today. The No. 2 seeded Dolphins will host No. 7 College of Mount Saint Vincent, Wednesday night at 5:30pm to usher in the festivities.
The ECAC Metro NY/NJ Tournament is an eight-team tourney that begins Wednesday and extends into semifinal and final play this coming weekend. All legs of the tournament are played at the higher-seeded institution. Also on Wednesday, No. 1 Kean University takes on No. 8 Lehman College; No. 3 Brooklyn College hosts No. 6 Elmira College, and No. 4 Drew University entertains No. 5 Hunter College. Because Kean University would not be able to host the semifinal and final rounds this weekend, so long as CSI wins on Wednesday, they would host the rest of the tournament.
The Dolphins are anxious to get back on the court, having had an outstanding season. Two years after finishing with back-to-back losing seasons, CSI finished 20-7 this season and won the CUNYAC Regular Season Championship. Despite several key injuries, including season-ending injuries to point guard Lisa Galasso and leading rebounder Katelyn Hepworth, the Dolphins most recently fell to Hunter College in the CUNYAC Semifinals nearly a week ago.
Mt. St. Vincent will be the Dolphins’ first round opponent. They finished 18-9 this season, making it to the Skyline Conference Semifinals. CSI is 11-5 all-time against the fellow Dolphins, but MSV has won the last two meetings, the last during the 2011-12 season, 75-70.
