The College of Staten Island men’s tennis squad fell hard today, falling to Hunter College, 8-1, as part of CUNYAC play at the National Tennis Center in Flushing, NY. The Dolphins fell to 1-4 overall and 1-1 within conference play, while the home Hawks surged forward to 3-1, 2-0, respectively.
Hunter got off to a fast start, sweeping all three doubles flights. Mitchell Voloshin and Joel Youngberry had the closest flight at No. 3, falling there, 8-6. When play shifted to Singles, CSI got a nice bright spot from senior Daniel Ursomanno. Playing in the No. 2 spot, he provided CSI’s lone win over HC’s Matt Balilo, 2-6, 6-3, 10-5. CSI only took one other set (Ed Ruffe at third singles) otherwise the Hawks took the match is decisive fashion.
CSI will be right back in action tomorrow, when they travel to the Bronx to take on Lehman College at 3:30pm.
