The College of Staten Island’s intramural program hosted its first ever Students vs. Faculty/Staff Flag Football game this past Friday afternoon. Two 15-minute halves were played which saw Faculty/Staff come out on top with a 30-24 final score.
In the early stages of the first half Faculty/Staff jumped out to an 8-0 lead after completing a two-point conversion. The Students had their turn down the field but ended up turning the ball over near their end zone. Faculty/Staff would capitalize yet again with another touchdown to go up, 14-0 with 10 minutes remaining in the half. After missing the two-point conversion, the Students had their chance and this time scored on a long pass to cut the lead down to 14-8, after the two-point conversion was good.
With less than 6 minutes reaming, Faculty/Staff would score again, this time off an interception that put them up, 24-8. As the two-minute warning approached, the Students were able to get down field and into the end zone to cut the deficit to eight, 24-16. However, with just under 2 minutes remaining in the half Faculty/Staff would race down the field and score to go up, 30-16 at the half.
The second half of the game was very defensive orientated as both teams traded multiple turnovers and fourth down in completions. As time ticked away, the Students tallied a touchdown on the scoreboard but failed to score the two-point conversion. With less than six minutes to play, Faculty/Staff still led 30-24. They would use some poised defensive stops and time management to seal the game with a final score of, 30-24.
