The College of Staten Island women’s tennis squad started their modified spring season today, falling hard to Ramapo College in their first of four spring matches in preparation for national tournament play. Ramapo defeated CSI, 7-2, as the Dolphins were forced to play shorthanded, with only four players available for the contest. The Roadrunners improved to 15-2 overall, while CSI fell to 11-4.
The teams split doubles play as CSI’s 1-2 tandem of Nozima Toshpulatova and Sabrina Bragerton-Nasert scored an 8-3 win over RC’s tandem of Vasundra Gandotra and Katrina Bliss. The Roadrunners returned the favor, however, with an 8-1 win in the No. 2 spot, and after doubles, Ramapo had a commanding 4-1 edge.
Bragerton-Nasert followed with CSI’s only win in singles play, scoring an efficient, 6-1, 6-3, win against Bliss in the No. 2 spot. Gandotra had a fight against Toshpulatova in the pole position, but ultimately pulled out a 6-1, 7-5, win. Micala Demchak scored a victory at No. 4 against Aziza Jurabaeva, 6-2, 7-6.
CSI women are back in action on Monday, April 20, when they battle York College at 2pm, in Queens, NY.
