After a productive 11-14 campaign that ended with a playoff appearance for the College of Staten Island women’s volleyball team, the squad is looking for continued improvement on the hardwood this fall, and have released their 2015 schedule that is filled with what promises to be exciting action at every turn. The schedule features 25 total contests with four tri-matches culminating with the CUNYAC Postseason Championship in early-November.
CSI will open with a trio of non-conference games, starting with a visit to Kean University on September 1 in Union, NJ, at 4:30pm. The team’s home opener occurs a week later against Yeshiva University. Four days later, on September 12, CSI will usher in the conference portion of their schedule as part of CUNYAC multimatch play at York College, where they will play John Jay College and Brooklyn College.
A trio of home dates follow in mid-September before CSI embarks on a seven-game road trip, ending with more CUNYAC play at CCNY on October 12 to take on both Medgar Evers College and Baruch College. The Dolphins will celebrate Senior Night on Tuesday, October 27, when they will face Hunter College in what will also be their CUNYAC finale. CSI will officially wrap up its schedule in Bryn Mawr, PA, where they will face Bryn Mawr and PSU-Abington.
Postseason play will commence on November 3, with the top four seeded teams in the CUNYAC hosting quarterfinal round games. The quarterfinal winners will then meet on Friday, November 6, for both semifinal and championship play at Hunter College in Manhattan.
In his first season as head coach, Juan Lopez led CSI to an 11-14 mark, its highest win total since the 2009 season. The mark included a 3-5 tear within the conference and the team finished with a No. 6 positioning in the postseason. All CSI home games are FREE for spectators and PG-CLUE certified for students. Many CSI home contests will also be covered via live video stream through CSI SportsNet.
