The College of Staten women’s volleyball squad saw their first CUNYAC action this morning when they traveled to the City College of New York for a multi match against John Jay College and Brooklyn College.  The early session saw the Dolphins fall to the Bloodhounds in four sets 1-3.  The Dolphins played the Bulldogs in their second game and fell 3-0 which drops them to 2-3 overall and 0-2 in the CUNYAC.

The Dolphins fought a hard battle in game one but were thwarted 25-19 by the Bloodhounds.  John Jay only committed five errors in game while securing 9 kills on 20 total attacks.  The game was fierce in the beginning with both teams matching what their opponents did for a near deadlock early on.  The Bloodhounds found a crack in the Dolphins’ formation which allowed them to rifle off four points in a row and give themselves enough of cushion to take game one from CSI.

CSI claimed their only win of the match in game two with a narrow 25-21 victory over the Bloodhounds. The Dolphins had a healthy lead until the Bloodhounds found their groove and scored seven unanswered points to put them back in the game.  The Dolphins stayed resilient and were able to pull out a win to tie it up at one apiece.

After their good performance in game two the Dolphins fell off their game in game three and were held to only 14 points in a 25-14 tilt in favor of the Bloodhounds.  CSI beat themselves in this game as they committed a match high 14 errors and hit -.500%.

The women were almost able to send it into a game five but the Bloodhounds had other ideas and were able to close the door on the Dolphins 25-20.

The Dolphins took on the Brooklyn College Bulldogs in their second match of the day.

CSI was in all three matches in the second game against the Bulldogs but were unable to get over the threshold to capture a win.  Game one went back-and-forth until the very end, as both teams continued to trade points.  The Dolphins had a lead midway through the game until the Bulldogs went on a run of their own to take the game 25-23 over CSI.

The women kept it close once again in game two until the Bulldogs pulled away late to give them a 2-0 lead over the Dolphins.  CSI staring defeat in the eye made their last push to surge to a victory but were unsuccessful in a 22-25 loss in game three.
