College of Staten Island women’s tennis senior Sabrina Bragerton-Nasert continued her torrid start to the season last week, and has earned the City University of New York Player of the Week honor, it was announced today. Bragerton-Nasert went 2-0 in both singles and doubles play a week ago, as CSI as a team improved to 5-0 overall.
The week started with a make-up contest against CUNYAC-rival Brooklyn College and CSI won the hard-fought match, 6-3, powered in large part to Bragerton-Nasert’s efforts. In doubles, she paired with junior Nozima Toshpulatova at the top spot to score an 8-3 winner over BC’s tandem of Suraya Maenhout and Ievgenia Kostenko. When play turned to singles, Bragerton-Nasert played the number two position, and was dominating in a 6-1, 6-1, win over Maenhout.
Two days later against Farmingdale State at home, Bragerton-Nasert was in top spot again with Madiha Mulla in doubles and the pair earned an 8-3 winner over the FSC team of Priscilla Signore and Tatiana Rosamilia. In singles Bragerton-Nasert then was spotlighted in the top position and won her match cleanly over Signore, 7-5, 6-1, helping pace CSI to a 5-3 overall win.
CSI is 5-0 this season, and will face St. Joseph’s College (LI) this afternoon at 5pm before resuming CUNYAC play against Hunter College at home at 1pm tomorrow.
