Postgame Interviews – The College of Staten Island women’s tennis squad finalized the home portion of the regular season and put a cap on conference play with a rousing, 9-0, win over City College of New York in match play this afternoon at the CSI Tennis Center. The win was the Dolphins’ sixth-straight, and powered the Dolphins to 12-3 overall and 5-1 in the CUNYAC. CCNY fell to 1-5, 1-4, respectively. Prior to the match CSI honored lone seniors Sabrina Bragerton-Nasert and Madiha Mulla in a ceremony.
On the courts it was all CSI from start to finish, on the chilly day with plenty of wind, the Dolphins were very efficient in doubles. In the lead position, Bragerton-Nasert and Mulla were overpowering in an 8-0 win, and shortly after, Michelle Kushnir and Guetanie Romain looked similar at No. 3, with a healthy 8-1 win over Yacine Douf and Domica Roberts. After being deadlocked early, CSI’s No. 2 team of Samantha Mazier and Hannah Ramirez were able to out-last Louiza Molohides and Minhal Mahmood, 8-4.
When play turned to singles, CSI was equally impressive, despite missing two starters in their rotation. Kushnir at No. 3 was lightning-fast in a 6-0, 6-0 win and shortly after Mulla scored the clincher in the No. 2 spot, 6-1, 6-0, over Ann Bui. Following suit, Bragerton-Nasert disposed of Charlotte Dulay, 6-0, 6-2. Romain at No. 6 and Mazier at No. 4 then followed with wins, and in the No. 5 spot, Ramirez scored a hard-fought, 6-2, 6-4, winner over Molohides.
Undefeated this week, CSI is now on their longest streak of the season at six games. They will now be idle until a non-conference test against Kean University on Tuesday, October 20, at 4:30pm.
