The College of Staten Island softball team earned a doubleheader split today, posting a 1-0 win before falling 6-0 to Austin College in Sherman, Texas.  CSI evened to 3-3 to start their season, while the Roos did the same, going to 6-6.  Head Coach Stella Porto picked up her 300th win for CSI in the opener.

In a pitcher’s duel in game one, CSI crossed an unearned run in the sixth inning to win the game.   Gianna DeCesare did the honors scoring on an infield error off of the bat of Vanessa Joia.  That proved enough for Jacqueline Cautela, who earned the complete game win, allowing just four hits while fanning three.

The Roos got even in the second contest, scoring their first runs of the afternoon in a three-run second inning off of CSI starter Nicolette Trapani.  The Dolphins could only muster three hits against AC starter Sophia Hernandez, who struck out five batters.

CSI has one final doubleheader tomorrow against Texas Lutheran at 5pm before they wrap up their southern swing as part of spring training.
