The College of Staten Island softball squad finalized their Texas road swing with a 3-5 record, falling in a pair of losses this afternoon at Texas Lutheran University in Seguin, TX.  The Bulldogs won the opener, 6-0, and took the second tilt, 9-2.  The wins improved TLU to 10-0 to start the year.

In the opener, TLU took control early with a three-run first inning, and that proved more than enough for Amanda Lochte, who had a perfect game going into the fifth before CSI’s Chyanne Gilliam broke the momentum.  Still, by that time the Bulldogs had opened up their 6-0 lead and cruised, out-hitting CSI, 8-3

Gilliam would finish 2-3 in the opener.  For TLU, Grace Estes went 3-3 with a pair of runs scored, while Taylor Yancey went 2-3 with two RBI and a run scored.  Jacqueline Cautela took the loss, giving up eight hits and four earned runs in six innings, fanning three.

In the second game, CSI threatened with early base runners, but again it was TLU that got out to a quick start, touching starter Samantha Bowbliss for three runs in the first inning, followed by another pair in the second.  Bowbliss helped her own cause by driving in CSI’s two runs in her fourth inning hit, but TLU powered back for two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to put the game out of reach.

Dolphins were out-hit, 13-5 in the nightcap and CSI was hindered by four errors which led to five of the Bulldogs runs crossing unearned.

?CSI will return home tomorrow and will get their regional portion of the season opened this weekend, when they host Rutgers-Newark on Sunday, March 6, at 12 Noon for a non-conference doubleheader.
