The College of Staten Island women’s tennis team got their first taste of victory this evening, travelling to Sarah Lawrence College and recording a 7-2 decision as part of non-conference play in Bronxville, NY. The Dolphins lifted to 1-2 overall, while the Gryphons fell to 0-4.
CSI was actually down in the match before it even started. Having an incomplete roster, the Gryphons were given wins at No. 3 Doubles and No. 6 Singles. That gave SLC the big 2-0 edge, but from there, it was all CSI.
In Doubles, the CSI tandem of Nozima Toshpulatova and Michelle Kushnir scored an 8-4 win in the No. 1 position, while Tristiana Adragna and Hannah Bruschi were just as solid in an 8-3 winner a few moments later.
In Singles, freshman Adragna got her first win via a 6-0, 6-0 winner over Moni Spancheska. Toshpulatova was equally effective in a 6-0, 6-0, win over Sarah Pyatt at No. 1 Singles.
CSI will be right back in action tomorrow, hosting York College at 12 Noon in what will be their CUNYAC opener.
